| ALL Point-of-Sale Terminals will have to be EMV Terminals. This means that they will have to accept the new credit/debit cards with CHIPS embedded in them. These terminals will have a bottom slot to slide the new cards into and the built-in pin pads in machines will be used to complete transactions. No longer will signatures be used to complete transactions on-site. The card will never leave the consumers hand and cards which are stolen will not be able to be used without the thief knowing the PIN number. This system has been tested in Europe buy MasterCard and ViSA, hence the name EMV for the system. EMV has been successfully utilized in Europe for over 2 years, reducing the amount of credit card thefts by 70%. |
